Join the battle to Repeal Vacancy Decontrol. The
2010 legislative session is already underway. Tenants Pac
believes that the rent laws must be renewed in 2010 (the
rent and coop laws expire in 2011) and vacancy decontrol
must be repealed in 2010 in order to preserve rent regulated
housing, New York's largest stock of affordable housing. While Democrats
now have the narrowest of majorities in the State Senate, we
need to pressure our friends in the Senate to pass
pro-tenant legislation.
In 2009, Tenants Pac joined with Housing Here and Now and
the Real Rent Reform Campaign, two large coalitions of
tenant, housing, labor and faith groups, to lobby Albany on
the repeal of vacancy decontrol. This work involved
door-knocking and phone banking in the districts of
Republican and Democratic Senators who do not support our
legislation, plus regular bus and van trips to Albany to
convince the State Senate to vote on bills that had already
been passed early in the year by the State Assembly.
This work will continue through the 2010 legislative
session. Please join us: come to Albany, volunteer for phone
banking or door knocking, and contribute money to support
the transportation costs. Go to Contact Us
